Plucky Town can feel slightly aggrieved at not getting a point from this final game of the 2012-13 South West Peninsula League campaign but manager Les Gilbert must have been pleased with his team’s efforts.
Town came out of the starting blocks the quickest and dominated the opening twenty five minutes and they could easilly have added to Glen Squires superb ninth opener. The top scorer curled his shot into the top corner of the Bovey net to give the keeper no chance.
The home side’s first real effort came after the half hour but stand-in keeper Ethan Fearn made a great stop; he then followed that up five minutes later with another fine save. Bovey though equalised with seconds of the first half remaining when the keeper misjudged a swinging corner and the ball went straight into the net at the far post.
Town opened the second half brightly but errors cost them dearly and Bovey scored quick fire goals to go 3-1 up. Rob Wearne headed Town back into contention with a quarter of an hour to play but they couldn’t find the equaliser that would have been just reward for their efforts.
Town team; Ethan Fearn, Tom Dunstan (Morgan Vallejo), Steve Winnan, Darren Friend, Jamie Webb, Tom Whipp, Dan Richardson, Ross Pope (Ben Ramdas), Rob Wearne, Glen Squires, Luke Wort. Unused subs: none.
Falmouth Town bounced back from their recent run of setbacks to record a deserved victory in this penultimate fixture of the 2012-13 season. Second half goals from Dan Richardson (46 minutes) and from top scorer Glen Squires (82 minutes) sealed a great win.
Town team: Ethan Fearn, Steve Floyd-Norris, Darren Friend, Jamie Webb, Steve Winnan, Tom Dunstan, Dan Richardson, Tom Whipp (Capt), Morgan Vagello ( Ben Ramdas), Rob Wearne, Glen Squires.
Town slipped to their second defeat in eight days to Elburton Villa in this the final SWPL match at Bickland Park this season. The game had been re-arranged after the first game back in September was abandoned after 74 minutes following Rob Wearne’s horrific head injury . Town were winning that one 2-1 but many of that squad deserted the club following the departure of Alan Carey and the cut in the wage budget.
This was a comfortable win for the visitors as they scored early and never really looked liked letting go. Losing central defender Jamie Webb early on didn’t help and the management were forced to re-shuffle an already threadbare squad. In the end a late Glen Squires goal was Town’s only consolation and managers Robbie Stephens and Les Gilbert will surely be glad to see this season out and rebuild the squad.
Team: Jason Chapman, Steve Floyd-Norris, karl Turner, Darren Friend, Jamie Webb (Ben Ramdas), Tom Whipp, Dan Richardson, Ross Pope, Rob Wearne, Glen Squires, Steve Winnan (Morgan Vagello). No unused substitutes.
