Skipper Dave Rawlings brought the curtain down on a magnificent season for the double winning Reserves with an amazing late equaliser. With only a couple of minutes to go he took a free-kick in his own half which deceived the Penryn keeper, flying over his outstretched arms, and into the net.
Town had gone ahead in the 7th minute through another defender, laurie McGowan, but were unable to capitalise on their first-half domination. Two quick goals early in the second-half through Ryan Reeves and Wade Brown gave the home side the lead. Both teams came close to scoring further goals before Rawlings’ memorable strike saw a lively game between the league’s top two sides end all square.
Falmouth Town ended the season on a high and clinched third spot with this amazing result. Matt Drummond struck five times; while Dan Green, Jamie Mudge and Mark Vercesi scored a goal apiece.
Falmouth Town Reserves 1 Illogan RBL 0
A Luke Wort goal saw Paul Murray’s Reserves confirm the Cornwall Combination League championship with a game to spare against season long challengers Illogan. With the League Cup already in the bag it has been a magnificent season for the Reserves, who are Champions for the first time.
Congratulations to the manager, squad and all involved.
Sticker 1 Falmouth Town Reserves 0
Any hopes of topping off a superb season for Town reserves with as third trophy were dashed at St. Blaise Park yesterday as Sticker took the Evely Cup.
Ben Manley had kept Town in the game with two great first half saves but Paul Murray’s side performed better in the second half and Kitson’s 75th minute winner was arguably against the run of play. The ECPL side though were the better side over the piece and it was not difficult to see why they haven’t conceded a goal in their last half a dozen games.
Well done to Sticker and good effort Town.
